It was a leg warmer kind of day and a lets not do our hair or makeup day either.   I’m seriously obsessed with these ones from Purl Lamb (and that is not a affiliate link, just like them that much).  Adalyn has a light grey pair as well (she’s wearing them in her 3 year old photos) and mine came in the mail over the weekend.  So we had some fun showing them off.  I’m going to attempt a stop motion video with all these photos.  I took about 500 on my interval timer and some of them crack me up.  Add another project to the list. 😉

This is going to blow a few locals minds but I’ve never been to this park.  I grew up just 30 minutes south of Seattle and yesterday was my first time going there.  The hubs’ step sister got married yesterday in Seattle and this is where we took family photos.  I pulled out my camera a few times when I wasn’t in the way of the other photographer and snapped a few shots of Adalyn checking out the water.  She of course was a flower girl and a damn cute one if you ask me!  I’ve got more pictures to share soon.

  • Tina - Love her flower girl dress…..what a princess. Seriously, NEVER been there? Wow! I think a GTG here is needed in the summer (although it’s pretty packed there then!).ReplyCancel

    • Melissa - Yeah it’s kind of sad I’ve never been there, we should definitely do a GTG there. Maybe during the week so it’s less crowded. It was packed yesterday. Probably about 10 photographers I saw there taking engagement shots to maternity photos. Definitely a fun spot!ReplyCancel

  • Courtney - Such a great shot!! Love the lines of the rails and her sweet dresses popping out of her coat 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Davina - So cute! And glad you finally visited gas works park!ReplyCancel

As photographers we are constantly trying to follow a set of rules.  While 90% of the time I follow them sometimes it’s nice to break them.  The big one is having a clutter free frame, nothing distracting in the photo that will take away from your subject.  With a toddler, this can be hard.  I will clean and clean and she will make things messy.  That’s life and sometimes it’s nice to just embrace it.  This is what our dining room looks like on a daily bases.  The day’s mail on the table, my current craft project out and I won’t lie I haven’t put away the decorations from Adalyn’s birthday yet.  This is reality and I think it’s important to document it every once and while.  And to share it so everyone knows our houses aren’t perfect even if they look so in photos.  🙂

  • Davina - I love it! I think reality can also get you some great compositions with a lot of interest and story telling, just like you did here!ReplyCancel

  • Laurie - I love it! Much like my house the majority of the time. 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Yazmin - This is what my house looks like in my photos all the time. I have a 2 year old, so if I waited to have a clean house before shooting, I’d never get any photos in!ReplyCancel

Just thought I should inform you all that unfortunately I am a 365 dropout.  This last month has been a rough one and shooting every day is just not a priority I want or need right now.  So for now I’ll shoot and post for myself.  🙂  But I look forward to following everyone else on their 365 journey. ♥

  • Yazmin - Sometimes other priorities are more important. You do you’re thang! 🙂ReplyCancel

Adalyn,

Where to start… I have sat here too long trying to decide exactly what I wanted to write to you.  I’ve been thinking about this letter for months and everything I want to say in it.   But as I sit here, all I can think about is how much the time has flown.  How much you have grown into a beautiful little girl and how much I love you.

Tomorrow is your third birthday, this is extremely hard for me to come to terms with.  We pass by the hospital you were born in every week and it feels just like yesterday your Daddy was rushing me down there because you were ready to come meet us.  Each year with you has been a complete blessing.  You are the whole world for your Daddy and I.  We cherish every day with you and to watch and help you grow has truly been the best gift we’ve ever received.

I have many hopes and dreams for you for the years to come.  Nothing too specific, mostly that you are able to achieve all your hopes and dreams and I pray that I get to help you in your journey.  That I get to be there for you when you need me and learn to let go when you’re ready to do things on your own.  I have no doubt you’ll go far and achieve everything you want.  You are bright young lady and it already shows at your young age.  To watch your personality and independence develop is amazing, every day it is a new stepping stone with you.  Although you are independent, you sure do know how to love.  You give the best snuggles, kisses and bear hugs a Mom could ever ask for.  If i need a hug you are right there to give me one.  I’ll never forget the day I started crying because things weren’t going right.  The compassion you showed me was truly remarkable.  You comforted me and brought a smile to my face.  That is something I will never forget.  The world is truly a better place because you are in it.  Never change little girl, you are truly one in a million.  I love you sweet girl with all of my heart.  Happy Birthday little lady.

I love you,

Mommy xoxo
